Frequently Asked Questions
What is a healthy BMI range?
For most adults, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a normal weight range. Below 18.5 is classified as underweight, 25–29.9 as overweight, and 30+ as obese.
Is BMI accurate for everyone?
BMI is a useful general screening tool, but it doesn't distinguish between muscle and fat mass — athletes and very muscular people may show a higher BMI without excess body fat. It's also less reliable for older adults, pregnant women, and children.
How is BMI calculated?
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². In imperial units, BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height (in)².
